Easy Curls

Everyone knows that braiding your wet hair the night before you want it to be curly is an easy way to have cute, hassle-free hair the next morning. For me, it's always hit and miss, so I wanted to try something different. There are constantly tips for how to do this is various magazines, so I combined a few tricks.
After washing my hair, I let it air dry a bit and then spritzed some of this stuff in it. It's Designline Get it Pressed spray; technically supposed to be for straightening, but I like the texture it gives my hair.

This is where I differed from my usual routine: instead of putting my hair into two big French braids, I put it into four small normal (non-French) braids. This way, the braids started lower on my head so I didn't get that awkward curly on top look. These braids are also easier to sleep on.

In the morning, I loosely ran a straightener over my dry braids. The heat makes it so the curls will last longer. I also straightened the tips of my hair for a piecey look. Of course I finished with lots of hairspray. And here is the final result! Cute, no?

Tee Towel

One tip that Seventeen Magazine has suggested multiple times is using a old, soft t-shirt to dry wet hair instead of a towel. Linds and I recently decided to take their advice to see if it was any good. After we took a shower (not together of course) we each took an old tshirt and tied our hair up in it. We let the shirt soak up the excess water in our hair for about an hour before we went to bed. The next morning our hair was less frizzy and it felt super soft. :)

Hair Smoothie?

Mmm, delicious. Actually, I did taste it and it wasn't bad. But this smoothie is not meant for your tastebuds.

Kendra and I found this recipe for a hair smoothie in Seventeen magazine.

The recipe:
1/4 cantaloupe
1 banana
2 tsp regular yogurt (we didn't have any so improvised with key lime, it made our smoothie smell extra delicious)
1 tsp olive oil (yeah... we only had canola)
Mix in blender and apply to hair from roots to tips. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse, shampoo, and condition. BOOM, sexiness. At least we hope.

The actual process was not very glamourous. See for yourself:
Supposedly these potassium rich fruits eliminate frizz. We'll see in the morning.
Breakfast, anyone?

We discovered that this was a little too much for one person. So unless you have a ton of hair, half of the above recipe would probably be fine.

The mixture was kinda chunky....

....And slightly resembeled vomit.
Don't worry, though, it smelled appetizingly unpuke-like.

I'm feeling dubious.
*It should be noted that Kendra's head started feeling itchy about half way through the half an hour we kept the conncotion on. I didn't feel anything, though.
After about 20 minutes, Kendra went to the shower to rinse her hair mask out. She found it suprisingly difficult to get the mask out of her hair. She ended up washing her hair 3 times and still had food chunks in her hair. And to top it all off, her hair felt MORE dry and brittle.
I learned from Kendra's experience and pre-conditioned my hair before showering. I then used a brush to make my hair nice and smooth (I think I might have ruined that brush, though. It is now riddled with fruit chunks). That helped a lot and I got everything out of my hair. My hair doesn't necessarily feel softer, but it also doesn't feel more dry and brittle either.
So I think the verdict on this one is maybe don't try it at home. Not really worth it.

****** Final results: Both of us felt like our hair was less frizzy and softer the following morning. But the down side is that both of us had little white chunks of fruit in our hair that made it look like we had lice. So we still don't recommend trying this one.

Truffles!

Kendra discovered this recipe for oreo truffles at allrecipes.com earlier this week. We tried it and they were absolutely delicious, easy to make, and inexpensive.

Here's the recipe if you want to try it:

Hi

So we're roommates who are always having stupid ideas for blogs. Well, we decided to execute one of them:
We're constantly reading about beauty tips in fashion magazines that sound cool in theory but seem like a lot of effort in practice. So, we're going to try these things for you and let you know how they turn out!
No promises on whether or not this will stick, but stay posted.
